- Dr. Triplett was born in Virginia in 1776, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Medical College in 5/1798 and afterward commenced his medical practice in Alexandria, Virginia. By 1810 he had moved to Fairfax (then part of Loudoun) county, Virginia. During this period he practicied medicine in Georgetown (D.C.) and Washington, D.C. He had many patients at the Dela Carlia Sanitarium, an old manor house that had been converted to a hospital. This was located on what is today the water works for Washington, D.C. (still called Delcarlia Reservoir). Dr. Triplett served as a physician during the War of 1812. He married his first wife, Margaret Carr Tebbs in Alexandria, Virginia 4/11/1810. Three children were born to them before Margaret began to suffer greatly from "consumption" (tuberculosis). In an attempt to ease her pain and perhaps cure her, Dr. Triplett had a house built in the Piedmont area of Virginia near Rectortown about 1818. The mountain air would be good for his ailing wife. This house/farm was called "Delacarlia" and the Tripletts moved there about 1820. Dr. Triplett's plan for his wife ultimately failed, and she died 8/14/1824. After her death, Dr. Triplett married second to Nancy "Ann" Massey, daughter of Lee Massey. Nancy Massey Triplett died in 1848, and Dr. Triplett lived the rest of his life at "Delacarlia" a widower. Dr. Triplett died in 2/1865 in Fauquier County. His homeplace, Delacarlia still exists today and has been restored. There is notation of a Triplett cemetery on the grounds, but I have never found it. It is likely that one existed and Dr. Triplett, his wives and perhaps Catherine Triplett Neill are buried there [I have never been able to find any information stating where Dr. Triplett is buried, but a cemetery plot on his farm is highly probable]
